Pune: While the need for ‘right-of-way housing’ was underlined during the COVID-19 epidemic crisis, the demand for community housing for seniors is likely to increase in the near future.
The administration had advised citizens to stay at home during COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown period. In such a time, those who do not have a rightful home or live in a rented house, especially the senior citizens, faced great difficulties. However, with the end of the coronavirus epidemic, there will be a significant increase in the demand for affordable housing for senior citizens (community living).
Mohit Nirula, Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Pacific Communities, which implements the concept of community living for senior citizens, said “According to figures from the Registrar General of India, the number of senior citizens in the country will be 17.3 crores by 2026. Today, the population of senior citizens in the Pune metropolis is over five lakhs. Although Pune is known as a city of pensioners, there is a huge demand for projects with world-class lifestyle and facilities for senior citizens. This need is underscored by the COVID-19 crisis.”
Commenting on the community living trend, Pranav Nyati, Director of Nyati Group said, “Given the experience of this COVID-19 crisis period, efforts need to be made to enable the seniors to experience a modern lifestyle, with all the facilities, medical and daily necessities. Senior citizens should be able to live with dignity and independence, an environment that will improve their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. ”
